Project ‘A Depository and Exhibition Building of the National Museum of Agriculture in Ostrava’

The location of the depository and exhibition building is an attractive locality of Lower Vítkovice in Ostrava. The new facility has been constructed in two adjoining halls (essentially a double hall, one originally a repair station for carriages that transport iron, so-called ‘Veronikárna’, the other a storage space for fire-proof materials). Until 1997, these halls served as service facilities for the maintenance of blast furnaces and then functioned as warehouses. Both were located in the protected heritage zone of Ostrava–Vítkovice, but neither were listed as protected buildings. After reconstruction, the museum moved here and now presents to visitors in the form of an open study repository part of its unique collection of historic agricultural machinery, accompanied by an interactive exhibition on food production, which presents not only high-quality Czech produce, but also offers information about food composition, variety and processing technologies.
