The Greatest Discovery / The Phenomenon of Agriculture in 100 Objects; ehibition, National Museum of Agriculture, Prague

We are all farmers! Although currently, only 1% of Czechs are employed in farming and animal husbandry, we are all descendants of an agriculturalist civilisation. It arose over 10,000 years ago and crucially helped humans in achieving their greatest dream: having enough food is a basic precondition of our current prosperity. We are indebted to agriculture for the creation of writing, invention of calendar and mathematics, as well as the development of cities and states. With a grain of salt, one could claim that even the Industrial Revolution was driven by the needs of agriculture.

Join us on a journey to the roots of our civilisation. Come and discover the story of agriculture from the earliest grinding stones, through the origin of places called ‘Lhota’, import of potatoes from the Americas, and discovery of the laws of heredity, all the way to artificial fertilisers and agricultural drones.

Let us guide you through the history of agriculture in 100 unique objects.

Come and try to think to what extent you, too, are farmers.

This exhibition marks 100 years since the foundation of the National Museum of Agriculture, whose founders include the important politician Antonín Švehla, and 100 years since the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic.
