History of the Sub-Collection

The sub-collection dedicated to food production is one of the newer sub-collections which the National Museum of Agriculture started to build in a systematic fashion. Its origins go back to the 1960s, but it also includes some models which the museum had inherited from the Ethnographic Society. Over time, emphasis had been placed predominantly on objects from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The sub-collection focuses on the processing of agricultural produce either by craftsmen and women or by industrial process, with relatively little attention paid to household. Items included in this sub-collection for the main part document the situation in the food industry from the nineteenth century until the present.

Models of the old Bohemian corn milling system, of mill settings for grinding millet and panicum, and instruments for producing oats.
